AS Monaco FC salvaged a point on home soil after staging a rapid second-half comeback to draw 2–2 with AJ Auxerre in Ligue 1 action at the Stade Louis-II on Sunday, April 19.
The match began in the worst possible fashion for the hosts, who were caught cold early on. Auxerre took the lead in the 11th minute through Kévin Danois, capitalising on a lack of defensive sharpness to put Monaco on the back foot. The visitors doubled their advantage before the break when Lassine Sinayoko finished clinically, leaving the Principality side facing a daunting two-goal deficit at half-time.
Monaco’s response after the interval was immediate, and decisive.
Just eleven minutes into the second half, Ansu Fati reignited hopes with a well-taken goal to reduce the deficit. Moments later, the momentum swung entirely in Monaco’s favour when they were awarded a penalty. Folarin Balogun stepped up and converted confidently, levelling the score at 2–2 in the space of just three minutes.
With the crowd behind them, Monaco pushed for a winner, applying sustained pressure in the final stages. However, Auxerre held firm defensively to secure a valuable point, while the home side were left to reflect on a costly first-half performance.
The result underlines Monaco’s resilience but also highlights lingering inconsistencies, as they continue their push for a strong finish in the Ligue 1 campaign.
