Monaco’s most iconic event is heading to the big screen, with the forthcoming Ocean’s 11 prequel set to unfold against the backdrop of the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.

The project, which remains untitled, will star Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper as the parents of master thief Danny Ocean, offering a glimpse into the origins of one of cinema’s most famous con artists. Speaking at CinemaCon, Robbie revealed that the film centres on a high-stakes heist staged during the historic Formula One race.

Set decades before the events of the original trilogy, the story will follow the duo in their prime as they orchestrate an elaborate operation amid the glamour and chaos of Monaco’s most prestigious sporting weekend. The film is scheduled for release on June 25, 2027, with Cooper also attached as director.

The choice of setting places Monaco firmly at the heart of the narrative. The 1962 Grand Prix itself was won by New Zealand driver Bruce McLaren, with Prince Rainier III and Princess Grace in attendance to present the trophy—an era that perfectly captures the elegance and intrigue the franchise is known for.

While specific plot details remain under wraps, the script has reportedly been written by Carrie Solomon. It is not yet known whether Monaco’s royal family will be portrayed in the film.

The prequel marks the latest chapter in the long-running Ocean’s franchise, which began with Ocean’s 11 and followed a group of sophisticated criminals executing ambitious heists across Las Vegas and beyond. A spin-off, Ocean’s 8, later introduced a new generation of characters led by Sandra Bullock.

In parallel, reports suggest that George Clooney is also developing a separate project that would reunite the original cast in a new story exploring a later stage in their criminal careers.

For Monaco, the film offers another moment in the cinematic spotlight, this time blending Hollywood storytelling with one of the Principality’s most enduring symbols of glamour and prestige.
