Visitors hoping for a near-term reopening of Monaco’s Animal Garden will have to wait a little longer, as authorities have confirmed that the site will remain closed throughout 2026 while extensive safety and redevelopment works continue…

The Garden was initially closed to allow for essential stabilisation work on the cliff face above the site, a complex operation requiring particular care to protect both the animals and the fragile natural ecosystem that surrounds the enclosures. Officials have stressed that these safety works cannot be rushed and must be carried out with minimal disturbance to the wildlife in the area.

At the same time, the closure has provided an opportunity to launch the most ambitious modernisation programme since the Animal Garden was created more than 70 years ago, in line with the wishes of H.S.H. Prince Albert II to improve animal welfare while enhancing the visitor experience.

Future facilities will offer larger and better-designed habitats, increased vegetation, and mixed-species areas where appropriate, all aimed at creating more natural living environments for the animals. The visitor route is also being completely redesigned to provide a more immersive and educational experience, while reception and public facilities will be upgraded to modern standards of comfort and accessibility.

Although no reopening date has yet been announced, the Government has indicated that the project represents a long-term investment in animal wellbeing and public engagement. In the meantime, updates on the animals and on the progress of the works will continue to be shared via the Animal Garden’s official social media channels, allowing the public to follow the transformation ahead of its eventual reopening.
