Philippe Junot, the former husband of Princess Caroline of Hanover, has died at the age of 85. His daughter, Victoria, confirmed the news on social media, announcing that he passed away peacefully in Madrid on Thursday, January 8, surrounded by his family…

In a heartfelt message, she paid tribute to what she described as a long, adventurous life, expressing gratitude for the years shared with her father and celebrating his enduring spirit. Junot had been living in the Spanish capital for many years and remained close to his children.

A businessman and real estate developer, Junot was the son of a former deputy mayor of Paris and moved comfortably within international social circles. He met Princess Caroline in the late 1970s, and their wedding in June 1978 in Monaco attracted intense media attention, reflecting both the glamour of the occasion and the public curiosity surrounding their 17-year age difference. The marriage, however, proved short-lived, and the couple separated in 1980 before later obtaining a Catholic annulment.

Junot went on to remarry Nina Wendelboe-Larsen, with whom he had three children, Victoria, Isabelle and Alexis, before divorcing again. He was also the father of Chloé, born in 2005 from a later relationship.

His passing marks the end of a discreet but notable chapter in Monaco’s modern social history, remembered by many for its brief intersection with the Principality’s royal family.
