An elderly woman who was struck by a vehicle in Monaco has died from her injuries, authorities have confirmed…

The accident occurred on December 11th at 63 Boulevard du Jardin Exotique, a busy uphill artery in the Principality. As reported by Monaco Matin, the 85-year-old Monegasque woman was crossing the road when she was hit by a motorist travelling along the boulevard. Emergency services, including Monaco firefighters and medical teams, were quickly dispatched to the scene, where the victim was found to have sustained multiple serious injuries.

After lengthy treatment at the roadside, during which municipal police secured the area and managed traffic flow, the woman was transported in critical condition to the Pasteur University Hospital in Nice. Despite intensive medical care, she succumbed to her injuries on December 12th.

The Monaco public prosecutor’s office, which is overseeing the investigation, initially opened proceedings for involuntary injury before reclassifying the case as involuntary manslaughter following the victim’s death. The driver involved, a French national born in 1990 and employed in Monaco, was taken into police custody shortly after the incident. According to the authorities, toxicological tests showed no trace of alcohol or narcotics.

Investigators from the Public Security Department have carried out on-site examinations and are expected to analyse CCTV footage from the surrounding area. Key questions remain under review, including the speed of the vehicle, whether the driver was distracted, and the precise circumstances under which the victim was crossing the road.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns around road safety, particularly for elderly pedestrians, on Monaco’s heavily trafficked streets.
