One year after its historic inauguration by the Princely Family on December 4, 2024, Mareterra, Monaco’s visionary six-hectare extension into the sea , is proving to be everything it promised, and more…
Conceived as a model of sustainable urban living, the district has rapidly transformed from an extraordinary engineering achievement into a vibrant, lived-in neighbourhood that is reshaping daily life in the Principality.
A decade in the making, Mareterra has quickly become one of Monaco’s most beloved public spaces. The Promenade du Portier, its green walkways and its car-free environment invite families, residents, and visitors to enjoy a peaceful slice of the Principality rarely found elsewhere. Footfall has exceeded expectations, with strong attendance on weekends and a steady stream of visitors during the week. Workshops organised between residents and the gardeners who maintain the site have strengthened the sense of community and pride in this unique environment.

Environmentally, Mareterra stands as a global reference. Its most celebrated achievement, the world-first transplantation of nearly 500 m² of posidonia seagrass, has flourished far beyond expectations in the Larvotto reserve, demonstrating Monaco’s commitment to marine conservation and earning international recognition, including presentations as far as the United States.
Economically, the district has delivered on its promise to attract new residents and investment. Around 80% of the 125 luxury apartments and villas are now occupied or being fitted out, with nearly half of the occupants newly arrived in Monaco, a clear success for the Principality’s strategy of sustainable growth.
To mark the anniversary, artist Vanessa Fon Sittévic has unveiled a photographic exhibition capturing Mareterra from every angle, on display until December 11. After just one year, Mareterra has already become an essential chapter in Monaco’s story, a symbol of its ambition, innovation, and future.
