The day after National Day, Monaco turned its attention from celebration to diplomacy as the Principality hosted its annual meeting of consuls, an event that has become a key moment for showcasing the strength and reach of Monegasque soft power…
Held at the Hôtel Hermitage and organised by the Department of External Relations and Cooperation, the gathering brought together Monaco’s ambassadors, accredited foreign ambassadors, and the Principality’s extensive network of honorary consuls from around the world.
For Minister of External Relations and Cooperation, Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, the meeting is both symbolic and strategic. Bringing together 135 honorary consuls representing Monaco in 88 countries allows the government to reinforce key messages, share updates on policy priorities, and maintain the strong personal connections that underpin Monaco’s diplomacy.
This year’s session welcomed four newly appointed honorary consuls, based in New Delhi, Palermo, Warsaw and, for the first time, Jordan, reflecting Monaco’s continued diversification of its diplomatic footprint. The gathering was also an opportunity to outline the government’s major priorities for the year ahead, including economic competitiveness, international cooperation, and the ongoing fight against money laundering.
Secretary of State for Justice Samuel Vuelta Simon presented Monaco’s significant legislative and structural progress in strengthening anti-money-laundering measures, including the creation of a dedicated financial prosecutor’s division. He emphasised Monaco’s growing cooperation with international partners and expressed confidence that these efforts will be recognised globally.
Presentations from the Monaco Economic Board and the Delegate for Attractiveness highlighted the Principality’s economic resilience and ongoing initiatives to enhance its global appeal. The Department of International Cooperation also outlined its new 2025–2030 strategic plan focused on development and solidarity.
For consuls, the meeting is a vital forum for exchanging experiences, receiving updates directly from Monaco’s leadership, and ensuring they can accurately represent the Principality abroad. Many highlighted the value of being part of National Day traditions and hearing first-hand how Monaco is strengthening its position on the international stage.
As Monaco continues to expand its global presence through diplomacy, cooperation, and targeted policy reforms, this annual meeting remains one of the clearest demonstrations of the Principality’s soft power, and its ambition to remain visible, influential and engaged worldwide.
