Monaco honoured its sporting heroes this week as Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene presided over the traditional Physical Education and Sports Medals ceremony at Stade Louis-II…

Held every year in the days leading up to the National Day, the event recognises athletes, coaches, volunteers and sports leaders who have contributed to the Principality’s outstanding sporting achievements.

The 2025 edition was described by many as one of the most exceptional yet, crowning a year marked by major successes across disciplines. Surrounded by family, teammates and the wider sporting community, the honourees spoke of their pride at being recognised by the Princely Couple, both of whom are deeply committed to promoting sport and its values in Monaco.

For many athletes, the ceremony was an opportunity not only to celebrate personal achievement but also to acknowledge the countless hours of training behind the scenes. Several recipients reflected on the joy of receiving recognition at home, especially at an event that brings together individuals from across Monaco’s sporting landscape, from tennis and athletics to team sports and emerging disciplines.

Coaches and volunteers were also honoured, highlighting the essential role they play in developing young talent and supporting athletes at every level. The ceremony fostered a strong sense of community, with recipients emphasising the value of meeting fellow contributors to Monaco’s vibrant sporting life.

In total, 53 individuals received medals this year, a testament to the depth and diversity of Monegasque sport. With 2026 set to feature major highlights, including the eagerly anticipated departure of the Monaco leg of the Voiles race next summer, the Principality enters the new year with momentum, unity and pride in its sporting accomplishments.
