As reported by Monaco Matin, Monaco resident and easyJet founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou has made an extraordinary donation to the Restos du Cœur charity in the Alpes-Maritimes — over €700,000 worth of food, representing 730,000 cans…
The contribution, one of the largest individual donations ever received by the organisation, will help feed thousands of people across the region this winter.
Sir Stelios, who was appointed a Knight of the Order of Saint-Charles by His Serene Highness Prince Albert II in 2023, continues to use his fortune for wide-reaching philanthropic causes through the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, based on Monaco’s Quai Antoine. The foundation focuses on supporting communities in countries where Stelios has lived and worked, with his Food from the Heart programme in Greece and Cyprus providing more than 200,000 meals every month since 2013.
In France, his generosity has extended beyond this latest gift, including a €100,000 donation to restore Menton’s Chapel of the Madonna and the loan of his yacht, Fly Me to the Moon, to Monaco’s firefighters for training exercises. With an estimated fortune of $1.3 billion, Sir Stelios is part of “The Giving Pledge,” a global initiative encouraging billionaires to dedicate the majority of their wealth to good causes.
