The Association Monégasque pour la Protection de la Nature (AMPN) celebrated 50 years of dedication to protecting Monaco’s marine environment on Friday, November 7, with the launch of a photographic exhibition at the Galerie des Pêcheurs. Minister of State Christophe Mirmand attended, alongside scientists, civic figures and environmental partners, to mark the milestone.
Founded in the mid-1970s, AMPN has been at the forefront of marine conservation in the Principality, safeguarding habitats, monitoring species and raising public awareness about environmental issues. The organisation has developed strong partnerships with the government and the Prince Albert II Foundation, carrying out restoration projects, managing marine-protected areas and conducting long-term ecological studies.

To mark its anniversary, AMPN launched this retrospective photographic exhibition, which will run until January 4, 2026. The exhibition traces half a century of work, featuring archival images alongside photographs of recent projects. Visitors can explore efforts ranging from underwater habitat restoration to species monitoring and community outreach initiatives, offering insight into how the association has balanced scientific research with public engagement.
Despite its small size, Monaco’s coastline is biologically rich yet vulnerable, making the work of organisations like AMPN essential. The exhibition highlights the sustained effort required to conserve these habitats amid urban development, tourism and climate challenges.
