Around 400 participants and their four-legged companions gathered under the Fontvieille big top for the second edition of the Roquethon Race Against Abandonment…

The event on November 2nd was dedicated to raising awareness about animal welfare and supporting shelters such as the SPA Monaco. The initiative, organised by the Roquethon Association, aims to combat the growing problem of pet abandonment and mistreatment; with more than 117,000 animals abandoned in France in 2024 alone.

Her Serene Highness Princess Charlene of Monaco, president of the association, attended the event accompanied by her Chihuahua, symbolising her ongoing commitment to animal protection. The day featured a full programme of activities, including conferences, agility games, raffles, and a lively fashion show where both dogs and their owners took to the runway, auctioning outfits to benefit the cause.

A special guest, Lion, a renowned South Korean animal rights advocate, spoke about his organisation’s success in helping to pass a landmark law banning the dog meat trade in South Korea earlier this year.

Funds raised during the Roquethon will be distributed among shelters in need, with SPA Monaco and Friends for Life Marrakech among the beneficiaries. Following last year’s total of €10,000 raised, organisers hope this year’s event will bring even greater support to those working tirelessly to give abandoned animals a second chance.
