Valentin Vacherot has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Monégasque player to reach the semi-finals of an ATP Masters 1000 event. In a remarkable quarter-final match at the 2025 Rolex Shanghai Masters, Vacherot defeated world No. 11 Holger Rune 2–6, 7–6(4), 6–4, overcoming a challenging first set and capitalising on Rune’s physical struggles in the final stages of the match.
This victory not only marks a personal achievement for Vacherot but also places him among the lowest-ranked players to reach a Masters 1000 semi-final. At world No. 204, he is the second-lowest-ranked player to reach such a stage since 1990, following Chris Woodruff at the 1999 Indian Wells Open.
Vacherot’s remarkable run in Shanghai has also propelled him into the ATP Top 100, a significant leap from his previous ranking of 204th.
Looking ahead, Vacherot is set to face the winner of the quarter-final match between Novak Djokovic and Zizou Bergs in the semi-finals on Friday, October 10.
This achievement underscores Vacherot’s exceptional talent and determination, marking a significant moment in Monégasque tennis history.
