The second day of the 2025 United Nations General Assembly opened with the launch of the General Debate, where U.S. President Donald Trump addressed world leaders. Among those in attendance was His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco.
Later in the day, the Sovereign held his first bilateral meeting of the session with Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The talks, which took place in New York, also brought together senior officials from both delegations, including Monaco’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Isabelle Picco, and Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Murat Nurtleu.
Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties and future cooperation. President Tokayev extended an invitation to Prince Albert to visit Kazakhstan in 2026, either on the occasion of the Astana Forum or during a planned regional summit on climate. Both leaders underlined the potential for collaboration on environmental issues, as well as economic and diplomatic exchanges.
The meeting also served as a platform to reaffirm their countries’ shared positions on international security. Monaco and Kazakhstan reiterated their support for peaceful solutions to the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, stressing the role of dialogue and diplomacy in achieving lasting stability.
The encounter highlighted the growing alignment between the Principality and Kazakhstan on global challenges, with both states using the UN as a stage to strengthen their partnership.
