Monaco is reaffirming its commitment to accessibility as the Larvotto Handiplage opens for the 2025 summer season, marking 20 years of inclusive beach access in the Principality.
The beach, specially equipped to welcome people with reduced mobility and disabilities, will operate throughout the summer until August 31. Organised by the Department of Social Welfare and Social Services with the support of the Soroptimist Club of Monaco, the initiative ensures that everyone, whether accompanied or independent, can enjoy swimming at Larvotto in a safe and comfortable environment.
Following positive feedback from last year’s trial, the site’s opening hours have been extended for this summer. Visitors can now access Handiplage from 10:00 to 18:00 on weekdays, and from 9:00 to 19:00 on weekends and the public holiday of August 15. These hours coincide with the lifeguard service at Larvotto, guaranteeing optimal safety.
To ensure a smooth and secure experience, a dedicated team of six trained staff will be on hand. All members of the Handiplage team hold first aid certification, offering reassurance to users and their families.
This year also brings improved facilities to the site, including a new accessible shower, a specially designed seat for persons with reduced mobility, and additional adapted sun loungers. Two new water-accessible wheelchairs known as tiralos have also been added, along with life jackets, gel cushions, and a cooler to enhance comfort during hot summer days.
