The Principality of Monaco has announced it will significantly increase its commitment to global childhood vaccination effort s, pledging to double its support for Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, over the next five years.
The declaration was made by Isabelle Rosabrunetto, Director General of Monaco’s Department of External Relations and Cooperation, during the Gavi Alliance summit held in Brussels on Wednesday, June 25. The high-level meeting, co-hosted by the European Union and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, gathered international leaders and major stakeholders to mobilise resources for Gavi’s 2026-2030 strategy.
Despite the absence of the United States, the summit succeeded in raising over $9 billion in pledges, reinforcing Gavi’s mission to ensure equitable access to life-saving vaccines for children in the world’s most vulnerable regions. Since its creation at the Davos Economic Forum in 2000, Gavi has helped vaccinate over one billion children, preventing countless deaths from preventable diseases.
Health remains a top priority for Monaco’s international development efforts, with the Principality allocating 30% of its annual cooperation budget to healthcare initiatives. Gavi is one of Monaco’s key partners in this field, reflecting the shared goal of reducing child mortality and fighting infectious diseases.
Speaking at the summit, Rosabrunetto praised Gavi’s impactful model but stressed that more needs to be done. “It is simply unacceptable that children are still dying every day for lack of access to vaccines. This is why Monaco has made the clear decision to double its contribution to Gavi over the next five years,” she stated.
This renewed commitment is part of Monaco’s broader support for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 — ensuring good health and well-being for all — with a particular focus on improving healthcare for children, adolescents, and communities most at risk of vaccine-preventable diseases.
