Her Excellency Isabelle Picco, Monaco’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, has been elected President of the 31st Meeting of the States Parties to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD)…

The election, held on 2 June 2025 in New York, marks a significant milestone as this year also celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Convention and the 30th anniversary of Monaco’s ratification of the treaty.

Madame Picco’s election by acclamation reflects the Principality’s deep and sustained commitment to the protection of human rights and the promotion of equality on the international stage. The meeting’s core purpose was to elect nine new members to the CERD Committee, which comprises 18 independent experts tasked with reviewing State reports and offering recommendations on the implementation of the Convention. The Committee convenes three times annually.

The newly elected members come from Côte d’Ivoire, Qatar, Cameroon, Türkiye, Togo, the Republic of Korea, Poland, Mexico, and Panama. They will join existing members elected in 2023, representing South Africa, China, Greece, Jamaica, Liberia, Malawi, Morocco, Mauritania, and Senegal.

Madame Picco’s presidency underscores Monaco’s role in advancing multilateral dialogue and action in support of global anti-discrimination efforts. Her leadership also highlights the continued diplomatic recognition Monaco enjoys within the United Nations framework as a principality committed to justice, equality, and international cooperation.
