Monaco will observe three days of national mourning following the death of Pope Francis, as announced by the Prince’s Palace on Tuesday. The period of mourning will run from Thursday, April 24 to Saturday, April 26, coinciding with the day of the Pontiff’s funeral.
In a mark of respect, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II has ordered that flags on all public buildings be flown at half-mast starting from Monday, April 21. Additionally, government buildings will not be illuminated during the mourning period, a symbolic gesture reflecting the solemnity of the occasion.
The Palace also announced that a minute of silence will be held on Friday, April 25, at 11:00, signalled by a siren intended to prompt a moment of collective reflection across the Principality.
While the Principality pays tribute to the late Argentine Pope, daily life will continue. Public services, including schools, and the private sector will remain operational throughout the mourning period.
