Standing before more than 500 students from around the world gathered for the 2025 Mediterranean Model United Nations (MEDMUN), His Serene Highness Prince Albert II delivered a powerful appeal for cooperation, dialogue, and multilateralism in an increasingly fractured world…
Held between Menton and Monaco, with key sessions at the Grimaldi Forum, the simulation brought together high school and university students to model United Nations proceedings and explore inclusive, strategic responses to conflicts affecting the Mediterranean and beyond.
The theme of this year’s MEDMUN, “Strategic Alliances: New Generations Convert Divisions into Dialogue to Shape the Future of the Mediterranean,” echoed throughout the Sovereign’s speech, in which he commended the initiative as “a true platform for dialogue and cooperation between younger generations.”
“You are here because you believe in diplomacy,” Prince Albert II said, encouraging the participants to reject isolation and conflict in favour of shared solutions. He emphasized the growing urgency of the challenges facing the region—from migration and inequality to extremism and climate change—and reaffirmed the central role of the United Nations in preserving a rules-based international order.
At a time of global uncertainty, the Sovereign praised the energy and conviction of the delegates: “You, MEDMUN participants, must embody, like a beacon of hope, a youth that refuses to give in to the logic of division and withdrawal.”
The conference underscored Monaco’s ongoing commitment to fostering international dialogue, diplomacy, and leadership among the next generation.
