The Esplanade of Larvotto came alive on Sunday, March the 23rd, as Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlène joined families, athletes, and road safety advocates for the inaugural Road Safety Day, a new initiative by the Princess Charlène Foundation dedicated to bicycle safety and the promotion of soft mobility in Monaco…
The event offered an engaging mix of education and entertainment for all ages, with free activities including a road safety circuit for young cyclists, a pumptrack for skill-building, and a lively awareness village. A special highlight was the Monabike Challenge, a day-long relay that saw six teams of personalities and local institution representatives cycling through the streets of Monaco for eight hours, racking up kilometres in the name of safer urban mobility.

Starting from 9:45 AM, every pedal stroke became a symbol of commitment to responsible transportation, with a focus on real-world practices like obeying traffic signals and navigating roundabouts—skills children practiced firsthand on the circuit. Parents praised the initiative, noting how it empowered their children with both confidence and awareness on the road.
Beyond cycling, the Red Cross and other partners offered first aid demonstrations, and Monabike showcased how electric bikes support sustainable urban living. The Foundation thanked its many collaborators, including Monaco’s public services, athletes, and volunteers, for making the day such a vibrant success.
With sunshine, smiles, and an atmosphere of community spirit, the first Road Safety Day not only educated but also inspired. It now stands as an essential annual fixture in the Principality’s calendar—championing safety, fitness, and eco-conscious living for all generations.
