Monaco’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations hosted its annual reception on Friday, March 14 to celebrate the birthday of HSH Prince Albert II, drawing ambassadors and senior UN officials to the organisation’s headquarters. This year’s event spotlighted sports as a driver of sustainable development, a fitting theme as Monaco gears up to become the World Sports Capital in 2025.
The evening paid tribute to HSH Prince Albert II’s deep ties to athletic values, showcased through a display of twelve photographs highlighting his personal dedication to sports.
In her address, Isabelle Picco, Monaco’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN, emphasised the global relevance of sportsmanship. She noted that qualities like solidarity, perseverance, inclusion, and respect—championed by the Prince—are vital to today’s international relations.
