The Monte-Carlo Television Festival is calling on the next generation of filmmakers to step up and pitch their most compelling real-world stories. In collaboration with 1895 Films, the festival has launched “Tell Me A Story,” a new pitch competition aimed at discovering fresh voices in factual storytelling.
Open to English-speaking creators between 18 and 30, whether affiliated with film schools or independent, the contest seeks to unearth untold narratives with originality and impact. Up to 20 finalists will be selected to pitch their stories live during the festival’s Business Content sessions, running from June 14 to 16 in Monaco. Each finalist will have just five minutes to make their case before a panel of top television and media executives, followed by a brief Q&A.
The competition will evaluate entries on creativity, storytelling strength, originality, and market potential. The winner will receive support from 1895 Films to develop their project, assistance in producing a sizzle reel, introductions to industry professionals, and two tickets to the prestigious Golden Nymph Awards Ceremony and Gala.
“This is an incredible opportunity for young storytellers to present their ideas to the industry’s most influential decision-makers,” said Cecile Menoni, Executive Director of the Monte-Carlo Television Festival. “By partnering with 1895 Films and Tom Jennings, one of the most respected executive producers in factual storytelling, we are excited to spotlight new creative voices.”
Jennings, CEO of 1895 Films, echoed the sentiment: “The Monte-Carlo Television Festival is one of my favorite events in the world, and I’m thrilled to be working with them again. This is a rare chance for emerging talent to have their ideas heard at the highest level, in one of the most inspiring locations imaginable. I can’t wait for the first contestant to step up and hear those words: ‘Okay, tell me a story.'”
The contest deadline for submissions is April 22, with finalists announced on May 27. The winner will be revealed at the conclusion of the Business Content sessions on June 16.
