Monaco is accelerating its transition towards sustainable public transport, with the ambitious goal of achieving a 100% electric bus fleet by 2030, a shift that requires significant logistical adjustments and gradual implementation…

Currently, 12 new electric buses have arrived at the Monaco Bus Company depot, but before entering service, they must be fully equipped with advanced onboard technology, including passenger validation systems, real-time tracking for scheduling accuracy, and digital rear-view cameras that enhance safety by providing a 360-degree view of the vehicle. These modern features improve manoeuvrability, particularly in Monaco’s tight urban spaces, making navigation more precise for drivers.

Beyond operational efficiency, the shift to electric buses significantly enhances passenger comfort. The new fleet is quieter, reducing noise pollution in the city, and produces far fewer emissions than traditional diesel buses, aligning with Monaco’s broader environmental commitments.

The transition to an all-electric network is being implemented progressively, with 13 additional electric buses set to be delivered by the end of the year, bringing the total to 35. The long-term goal is to double that number by 2030, ensuring that every bus on the network is fully electric.

With nearly every second new bus sold in Europe now being zero-emission, Monaco is keeping pace with sustainable urban transport trends. The Principality’s investment in cleaner, smarter mobility reflects its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint while improving the quality of life for both residents and visitors.
