The streets of Monaco are gearing up for a weekend of eco-conscious celebration as the Monaco Town Hall joins forces with the Société Monégasque d’Assainissement (SMA) and the Urban Planning Department for the fourth annual MonaCollecte. This year’s event, themed “Textiles in Every Stitch,” will take over Quai Antoine 1er on Friday, March 7, and Saturday, March 8, promising two days of community-driven action focused on collection, reuse, and recycling. Now a cherished tradition for environmentally minded residents and locals alike, “MonaCollecte” has become a cornerstone of Monaco’s sustainability efforts.

The event offers something for everyone: donation drives, hands-on workshops, and educational sessions designed to inspire greener living. This year’s spotlight on textiles aims to weave together creativity and responsibility, encouraging participants to rethink how they use and repurpose everyday materials.

The Monaco Town Hall is stepping up as a key partner, providing essential equipment to ensure the event runs smoothly. They’ll also host a bustling stand, featuring collaborations with the Monaco Media Library and several local charities, each offering unique activities to engage the public. On Friday, March 7, the “De Fil en Aiguille” association will kick things off with beginner-friendly decorative embroidery workshops. From 9:00 to 16:00, children can try their hand at this timeless craft, guided by passionate volunteers. Later, from 16:00 to 19:00, the sessions open up to all ages, fostering a rare chance for generations to connect over needle and thread.

Saturday, March 8, brings a fresh twist with the debut of “Mùnegu Repair Couture,” a sewing workshop running from 10:00 to 19:00 in partnership with Nice’s Repair Café. Attendees can learn to mend clothes and textiles, breathing new life into worn-out favourites whilst embracing a zero-waste mindset. Volunteers from the “Mùnegu Repair Café” will also be on hand, ready to tackle repairs for small, portable items brought by visitors. Across both days, the “Aux Cœurs des Mots” association—dedicated to promoting literacy and French language learning in underserved regions—will collect books and school manuals. Their partnership with the City Hall, formalised on 16 December 2024, underscores a shared commitment to education and outreach.

Meanwhile, the Monaco Media Library will invite visitors to browse its resources on sustainable textiles and drop off clean, gently used tote bags. For a fun, eco-friendly twist, they’ll host a “100 percent upcycled” fabric bookmark-making workshop—open Friday from 9:00 to 16:00 and Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00. Set against the scenic backdrop of Quai Antoine 1er, “MonaCollecte” runs from 10:00 to 19:00 both days, with free admission for all. Whether you’re stitching, repairing, donating, or simply soaking in the atmosphere, this event promises to stitch together a stronger, more sustainable Monaco.
