Monaco’s own Antoine Berlin is currently competing in the Tour of Rwanda, Africa’s most prestigious cycling event, where he and his Bike Aid team have been making a strong impression…
The race, which features eight gruelling stages, has quickly become a landmark competition on the international calendar, drawing top riders from across the world.
Speaking from Rwanda, Berlin shared that his team has already secured first place in the team classification, with a rider finishing second on the stage, and four team members, including himself, sitting comfortably within the top 15 overall standings. With four more stages to go, they are aiming for both stage victories and podium finishes.
Berlin, who prepared for this race with high-altitude training in Sierra Nevada, described the electric atmosphere surrounding the event. “Rwanda is truly special—there’s not a single stretch of road without spectators cheering us on. It’s like riding in a packed stadium for 120 kilometres,” he said.
Nicknamed the “Land of a Thousand Hills,” Rwanda provides a challenging, mountainous course that favours climbers like Berlin. However, he noted that race dynamics allow for thrilling battles between sprinters and climbers, keeping every stage unpredictable.
Beyond the sport, Berlin acknowledged the apprehension surrounding the geopolitical tensions near Rwanda’s border but emphasized that the race is well-organized and secure, with overwhelming support from locals.
The Tour of Rwanda has gained major prestige, helping Rwanda secure the 2025 UCI Road World Championships—a historic first for Africa. With his sights set on podium success, Berlin continues to fly the Monegasque flag high in one of the most exciting races of the year.
