His Serene Highness Prince Albert II presided over the official signing ceremony of the World Capitals of Sport commemorative plaque on Tuesday, February 18, in the Salle des Glaces of the Prince’s Palace, solidifying Monaco’s designation as World Capital of Sport 2025…

The event was attended by senior Monegasque officials and representatives of the Association of European Capitals of Sport (ACES), marking a significant moment in the Principality’s sporting history.

Among the distinguished guests were Minister of State Isabelle Berro-Amadeï and Minister of the Interior Lionel Beffre. The ceremony was a powerful statement of Monaco’s commitment to ethical, sustainable, and inclusive sports development.

HSH Prince Albert II, an advocate for international sports governance through his roles in the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and various sports organizations, emphasized Monaco’s global influence in promoting positive sporting values. “A city-state can be a global reference for ethical and sustainable sport,” he stated, reaffirming his belief in the lasting impact of sports values.

During the event, Minister Berro-Amadeï officially handed over the symbolic ACES flag to the Sovereign Prince, who then entrusted it to Lionel Beffre, marking the formal transition of the title. The commemorative plaque was presented to ACES President Gianfranco Lupattelli, further sealing Monaco’s recognition.

Following Sofia, Bulgaria, in 2024, Monaco is now celebrated for its world-class sports infrastructure, dedication to accessible sports, and continued support for international competitions. Throughout 2025, the World Capital of Sport title will be prominently displayed in the Principality, with numerous sporting events and celebrations, including the 40th anniversary of Stade Louis II, serving as a testament to Monaco’s vibrant sports culture.
