A return to the waves beckons swimmer, to complete the 180km swim between Calvi and Monaco, after the first attempt was cut short by adverse weather conditions…

Endurance swimmer Noam Yaron is preparing for a second attempt in June 2025, aligning his challenge with the United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice to highlight the urgent need for stronger marine protection.

Yaron’s first effort, which saw him cover 103km in 48 hours before being forced to stop, only strengthened his resolve to complete the crossing, which symbolically spans the Pelagos Sanctuary, a marine protected area jointly governed by Monaco, France, and Italy. While the sanctuary is designated for conservation, Yaron aims to raise awareness about the continued threats of industrial fishing, marine traffic, and climate change, which have led to increasing heatwaves and rising numbers of jellyfish in the Mediterranean.

Learning from his first experience, Yaron is making technical adjustments, including modifying his wetsuit for comfort over five consecutive days in the water, improving his support vessel setup, and refining his mental and physical preparation through high-intensity swimming and hypnosis techniques to combat exhaustion and hallucinations.

Beyond setting a world record, his mission is to push for legislative action, particularly a stricter prohibition on destructive fishing practices and the establishment of maritime speed limits to prevent deadly collisions with marine life. With a planned departure around June 14, immediately following the UN Ocean Conference, Yaron hopes to not only complete the swim but also contribute to lasting change in ocean conservation efforts.
