The skies cleared just in time for the first-ever edition of the Trail du Mont Agel, a race that nearly faced uncertain weather conditions before delivering an unforgettable experience. At 8:30, 500 runners set off from the heart of Monaco, navigating an extraordinary route that took them through Beausoleil and La Turbie before tackling the formidable ascent to Mont Agel, which towers at 1,100 meters above the Principality. From the first stretch, a battle for the lead emerged between Sébastien Poésy and Théo Le Boudec, setting a fierce pace. In the women’s category, Cana Peek of South Africa surged ahead early, followed closely by Chloé François and Marilyne Nakache.
The tension heightened as the two leading men reached the summit of Mont Agel, separated by a mere 50 meters. The descent proved decisive—Poésy gained momentum and gradually widened the gap, leaving Le Boudec unable to catch up. Poésy crossed the finish line in 2 hours and 26 minutes, setting a record that may stand for years. Le Boudec finished three minutes later, captivated by the breathtaking scenery, while Jérémy Millo, representing Vésubie Trail Club, secured third place. On the women’s side, Chloé François claimed victory in 2 hours and 50 minutes, with Eva Laurusso and Cana Peek rounding out the podium. Throughout the afternoon, runners continued to arrive, exhilarated by the demanding yet stunning course. The success of this first edition suggests that the Trail du Mont Agel is here to stay, cementing its place among the most remarkable races in the region.
As the Trail du Mont Agel runners embarked on their mountainous challenge, the City Trail set off on a parallel journey through Monaco’s most iconic landmarks. This year’s route featured a few notable additions, including a passage through the Oceanographic Museum’s aquariums and a section along Mareterra, Monaco’s newly developed district offering a rare experience of running above the sea.

Adrien Janin emerged victorious, outpacing Valentin Bouthier of AS Monaco Athlétisme, while on the women’s side, Liv Westphal once again dominated the streets of Monaco. A former French 5K record-holder, Westphal previously set national history at this event in 2020 and returned this year to claim a commanding solo victory.
The day’s energy extended beyond the elite competition, as young athletes took centre stage on Quai Albert 1er. Ten races of 1,000 meters saw future champions test their speed on a double 500-meter loop, cheered on by proud parents and enthusiastic spectators. Adding to the excitement, Olympic champion Cassandre Beaugrand had the honour of launching the youth races. Just one day before her own 5K challenge, she stood at the starting line, inspiring the next generation of runners who dream of following in her footsteps. With its blend of breathtaking scenery, world-class competition, and community spirit, the weekend’s events left an indelible mark on Monaco’s running scene. The Trail du Mont Agel and City Trail have solidified their place in the sporting calendar, promising even greater moments in the years to come.
