The Principality of Monaco has come together to honour its patron saint, Sainte Dévote, with two days of vibrant and deeply rooted celebrations on Sunday, January 26 and Monday, January 27. Organised in partnership with the Diocese of Monaco, the Princely Government, and the National Committee of Monegasque Traditions, the Monaco Town Hall played a key role in ensuring the legacy of the revered saint was celebrated with devotion and splendour.

Festivities began on Sunday morning with the Messe des Traditions in Monégasque at the Sainte Dévote Church. The evening saw the ceremonial handover of the Saint’s relics to clergy members at Port Hercule, followed by a solemn procession to the church, where the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament was held.

At approximately 19:45 Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene, accompanied by Hereditary Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, performed the symbolic burning of a traditional boat on the Quai Albert I. They were joined by Mayor Georges Marsan, members of the Communal Council, and representatives from Monaco’s highest institutions. Delegations from Monaco’s twin towns—Lucciana (Corsica), Ostend (Belgium), and Dolceacqua (Italy)—added an international touch of unity and reverence. The atmosphere was enriched by Corsican singers and musical pieces performed by the Municipal Band.

Large crowds gathered to partake in the celebrations, with giant screens broadcasting key moments to ensure everyone could join in the shared experience of devotion and tradition.

The observance continues on Monday, January 27, with the Pontifical Mass at Monaco Cathedral, followed by a procession and an official reception at the Monaco Town Hall.
