Monaco mourned the loss of its Minister of State, Didier Guillaume, in a poignant funeral ceremony held at the Cathedral of Monaco on Thursday January 23rd where over 500 attendees, including His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, Princess Caroline, and French President Emmanuel Macron, paid their last respects…

The ceremony was a heartfelt tribute to a man whose commitment to public service left an indelible mark on Monaco and beyond. President Macron spoke of Guillaume’s rare combination of rooted determination and forward-looking ideals, calling him a man of “clear vision and resolute action.” Similarly, Prince Albert II praised his loyalty, political intuition, and unwavering dedication to the Principality during his brief but impactful tenure as Minister of State.

The service featured readings, prayers, and musical interludes that captured the profound sorrow and gratitude felt by those in attendance. Monsignor Dominique-Marie David led the congregation in prayer, emphasizing Guillaume’s enduring legacy of service. The Prince posthumously appointed Guillaume as a Commander in the Order of Saint Charles, symbolizing the immense respect he garnered during his career.

Following the ceremony, Guillaume’s body was transported to Bourg-de-Péage for a second memorial on Saturday. His untimely passing at the age of 65 leaves a void in the hearts of many, including former colleagues and friends who described him as a stalwart ally and compassionate leader.
