The 27th edition of Monaco’s Taste and Flavours Day kicked off with a vibrant event at the Hôtel Hermitage’s Belle Époque room…

Students from across the Principality gathered to explore healthy and seasonal eating habits, guided by top chefs and educators, under the patronage of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II.

This year’s theme featured the intriguing combination of red cabbage and pomegranate, chosen to introduce children to unique flavours while promoting seasonal and nutritious food choices. Students were treated to a special breakfast showcasing these key ingredients, alongside interactive sessions with professional chefs and culinary experts.

For many young attendees, the day offered a first taste of these ingredients, sparking curiosity and challenging preconceived notions about food. As one student remarked, “I don’t really like red cabbage, but I might be surprised!” The chefs, blending creativity with pedagogy, crafted 42 distinct dishes, including pomegranate sorbet, coleslaw with apple and cabbage, and innovative red cabbage pastries.

The event extended beyond breakfast, with workshops scheduled throughout the week at educational establishments. These sessions focus on healthy eating, reducing food waste, and understanding local, seasonal produce. A highlight will take place on Thursday at the Technical and Hotel School, where students will participate in hands-on culinary workshops led by seasoned professionals.

With 800 recipe booklets distributed to young participants, Monaco’s Taste and Flavours Day continues to foster a love for nutritious eating and sustainable food practices, ensuring a healthy and flavourful future for the Principality’s youngest residents.
