Monaco experienced a significant boost in tourism during the 2024 holiday season, reflecting its enduring appeal as a prime destination for visitors worldwide….
The Principality saw a remarkable 46 percent increase in visitors to its Tourist Office information points compared to the previous year, with tourists drawn to iconic attractions such as the Christmas market and Casino Square.
French and Italian visitors remained a substantial part of Monaco’s holiday tourism, but this season also saw an influx of Chinese tourists, a demographic increasingly evident across the Côte d’Azur. While they have yet to fully transition into staying guests at Monaco’s hotels, their presence underscores the region’s expanding global appeal and offers valuable insights for 2025 tourism strategies targeting Asian markets.
December 2024 proved particularly robust for Monaco’s hotels, with an average occupancy rate of 44 percent, up from 36 percent in 2023, despite room rates remaining consistent. The increase was particularly notable during the first half of the month, driven largely by business tourism, while Christmas visitation showed a slight decline from 2023, attributed primarily to fewer Italian visitors.
Looking ahead, Monaco’s Department of Tourism and Congresses (DTC) is focusing on markets in Asia, the Middle East, and the United States. Campaigns such as showcasing Monaco on Times Square and leveraging direct flights to Nice from the US are key strategies. These initiatives aim to sustain Monaco’s growing popularity among international visitors, cementing its reputation as a year-round destination of choice.
