The Monaco Fire Brigade held a poignant ceremony on Thursday, January 9, at Place du Campanin in Fontvieille to welcome four new recruits. The event, under the leadership of Lieutenant-Colonel Maxime Yvrard, marked the formal induction of these young firefighters into the Corps with the symbolic presentation of their intervention helmets.
The ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including Lionel Beffre, Monaco’s Minister of the Interior; Colonel Tony Varo, Commander of the Public Force; and Father Christian Venard, Chaplain of the Public Force, who blessed the helmets in a solemn moment of reflection and commitment.
The recruits belong to the class named in honor of Sergeant-Chef Thierry Perard, a firefighter who lost his life in the line of duty during a tragic building fire on Avenue Princesse Grace in June 2022. The emotional ceremony included the presence of Perard’s widow and daughter, adding a deeply personal touch to the proceedings.
Each recruit received their helmet from a designated mentor, marking the culmination of a rigorous five-month training program. The presentation of the helmets not only symbolises the recruits’ readiness to serve but also signifies their integration into the brotherhood of the Corps. They now join their colleagues in safeguarding lives and property both within Monaco and in neighbouring communities.
The ceremony underscored the values of the Fire Brigade’s motto: “Courage, Devotion, Sacrifice.” These new firefighters step into their roles with a profound sense of pride and responsibility, ready to honour their commitment to the Principality and beyond.
