The Institut Monégasque de Formation aux Professions Judiciaires (IMFPJ) convened 200 legal and judicial professionals at One Monte-Carlo for a forum exploring the intricacies of corporate law in Monaco…
The event that took place in mid-December, underscored Monaco’s commitment to combating financial crimes, such as money laundering, often facilitated through trusts and shell companies.
Samuel Vuelta Simon, Director of Judicial Services, emphasized the relevance of the topic in light of Monaco’s proposed law n° 1.094 on corporate law modernization and France’s 2024 “RÉPONDS” initiative, spearheaded by the University of Paris Panthéon-Assas.
The day comprised multiple roundtables, featuring diverse perspectives from entrepreneurs, institutional representatives, lawyers, magistrates, legal advisors, accountants, and academics. The sessions offered a 360-degree view of corporate law, addressing both theoretical and practical dimensions.
Key discussions included the fundamentals of corporate structure, led by IMFPJ Scientific Director Yves Strickler, alongside Stéphane Valeri, President-Delegate of the Société des Bains de Mer, and Philippe Ortelli, President of the Fédération des Entreprises Monégasques. Other panels examined company formation, governance, conflict prevention, and responsibilities, with insights from figures such as Bernard Bensa, Dean of the Monaco Bar, and François-Xavier Lucas of the Sorbonne.
The forum concluded with a forward-looking session on ongoing corporate law reforms in Monaco and France, led by Professor Julia Heinich from the University of Burgundy. This comprehensive event highlighted Monaco’s proactive approach to legal innovation and its dedication to upholding the integrity of its corporate landscape.
