The annual Christmas Swim at Larvotto Beach once again brought together a spirited crowd for a good cause.
On December 21, with the air at 10°C and the Mediterranean waters at a brisk 16°C, around 200 participants, undeterred by the chilly temperatures, embraced the festive tradition organized by Les Amis du Bain de Noël de Monaco.
For some, this marked a first-time adventure, while for others, it was a well-loved ritual. “We only swim twice a year in winter—it’s for the fun, the celebration, and it’s such a great atmosphere,” shared a returning participant.
But the event is about more than just braving the cold. Each year, the organizers select a new charitable cause to support. This year’s beneficiary was Le Pirate Blanc Les Voiles Blanches, an association that receives no state funding. Through events like this, the group has made remarkable contributions, such as donating over 12,000 new toys to children in need since 2020.
The day began with a three-minute warm-up before participants, encouraged by live music from the Tahitian group Kain, took the plunge. Some leapt enthusiastically into the waters, while others ventured in more hesitantly, but all emerged with smiles and a sense of accomplishment.
“There’s so much joy and solidarity here,” remarked one organizer. “It’s about pushing ourselves a little for a great cause and feeling the warmth of the community spirit.”
The Christmas Swim remains an established tradition, uniting Monaco’s residents in the true spirit of giving.
