AS Monaco was held to a goalless draw by Stade de Reims on Saturday, December 14, in a hard-fought match at the Stade Auguste-Delaune.
Coming off a midweek defeat against Arsenal in the Champions League, Monaco sought to bounce back and reclaim second place following Marseille’s draw with Lille earlier in the day. Head coach Adi Hütter opted for a 3-4-3 formation, with key players like Aleksandr Golovin, Takumi Minamino, and Eliesse Ben Seghir leading the attack. Despite several promising chances, Monaco lacked the finishing touch to take all three points.
The first half saw Monaco dominate possession and create opportunities, but Reims goalkeeper Yehvann Diouf delivered an impressive performance, denying Minamino multiple times. Meanwhile, Reims came close through Marshall Munetsi and Keito Nakamura, with the latter missing a golden opportunity in front of an open goal.
The second half opened with Oumar Diakité striking the crossbar for Reims, a sign that the home side remained dangerous. Hütter responded by introducing Breel Embolo, Maghnes Akliouche, and Mohammed Salisu, but the substitutions did not yield the desired breakthrough. Minamino had a late chance to secure victory but missed the target, leaving Monaco frustrated.
The match ended in a 0-0 stalemate, keeping Monaco in third place, level on points with Marseille. Their next challenge comes on Wednesday, December 18, when they face Paris Saint-Germain at the Stade Louis II in a critical clash before the winter break.
