Monaco’s streets witnessed a groundbreaking moment as the first hydrogen-powered racing car, the “Pioneering 25,” roared into the Principality, symbolizing a leap toward sustainable motorsport…

Presented on the Place du Palais Princier, this revolutionary single-seater is part of the upcoming Extreme H series, the first global hydrogen off-road racing championship, scheduled to debut in 2025.

His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco, a passionate advocate for sustainability, personally test-drove the vehicle, marking the start of this transformative journey. “It’s an impressive machine,” he shared, noting the smooth acceleration and unique sensations the hydrogen vehicle offers. Despite its imposing size, the car displayed agility, demonstrating hydrogen’s potential as a viable alternative energy source in motorsport and beyond.

The Extreme H championship aims to push the boundaries of hydrogen technology by fostering innovation and competition. Alejandro Agag, founder of Formula E and Extreme H, emphasized that motorsport serves as a “laboratory” for clean technologies. “With this series, we’ll see hydrogen technology evolve rapidly and transition into everyday road cars,” he predicted.

The unveiling coincided with a high-level forum at the Hôtel Hermitage, gathering global leaders to discuss hydrogen’s role in the energy transition. As reported by Monaco Matin, this event highlighted Monaco’s commitment to positioning clean hydrogen at the forefront of mobility and transport strategies.

The integration of hydrogen into motorsport is not just about competition; it represents a critical step toward reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable innovation. As Extreme H joins the FIA World Championship calendar in 2026, Monaco remains a pivotal stage for pioneering clean mobility solutions, driving the world closer to a greener future.
