Monaco’s Société des Bains de Mer (SBM) has marked a historic milestone by opening its first Monte-Carlo Casino outside of Monaco. The inaugural casino was unveiled on Thursday, November 14, aboard the luxury cruise ship Crystal Symphony during a ceremony in Venice.
Occupying 110 square meters, the casino showcases a design crafted by SBM’s design office under the leadership of Olivier Bernard, Director of Real Estate Development. The space blends modern elegance with historical charm, drawing inspiration from the iconic 1889 salon of the Monte-Carlo Casino. It features a private Belle Époque-style salon, intricate moldings, luxurious carpets, woodwork, and a central crystal chandelier. Even the croupier uniforms replicate those of their Monegasque counterparts, ensuring a seamless extension of the Monte-Carlo experience.
“The deployment of the Monte-Carlo Casino beyond our borders is, for us, a symbolically strong act. It attests to our desire to open up to new markets,” remarked Stéphane Valeri, Deputy Chairman of SBM.
This expansion reflects SBM’s ambition to reach a global clientele and underscores its reputation as a leader in the luxury gaming industry.
The partnership with Crystal Cruises, facilitated by A&K Travel Group, further solidifies this vision. “There was no other possible choice for a gaming partner than SBM, founded over 160 years ago and positioned as a global leader in the casino industry,” noted Manfredi Lefebvre, Executive Chairman of A&K Travel Group.
Following the successful debut aboard the Crystal Symphony, a second Monte-Carlo Casino is set to open on Wednesday, December 18 on the Crystal Serenity. This casino will launch during the ship’s departure from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and will feature three gaming tables and 32 slot machines. Moving forward, all future Crystal Cruises ships, except for expedition vessels, will include a Monte-Carlo Casino on board.
