Formula 1 will continue to race on the iconic streets of Monaco until at least 2031, following a new agreement between Formula 1 and the Automobile Club of Monaco (ACM).

This six-year extension builds upon the existing contract that runs through the 2025 season, ensuring the Monaco Grand Prix remains a fixture on the F1 calendar for the foreseeable future. The announcement underscores the enduring significance of the Monaco Grand Prix, which has been part of the Formula 1 World Championship since 1950 and continuously since 1955. Known for its challenging circuit that winds through Monte Carlo, the race is one of the most prestigious and demanding events in motorsport.

The new deal was supported by His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco, highlighting the Principality’s commitment to hosting the event. Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, expressed his delight at the agreement, stating: “The streets of Monte Carlo are unique and a famous part of Formula 1, and the Monaco Grand Prix remains a race that all drivers dream of winning.” He extended special thanks to Prince Albert II and Michel Boeri, President of the ACM, for their roles in securing the extension.

This agreement signals a new era of partnership and innovation between Formula 1 and Monaco, with a focus on sustainability and reducing environmental impact. Domenicali noted the importance of creating an optimized calendar to decrease logistical pressures and support F1’s Net Zero Carbon goal by 2030. The Monaco Grand Prix will play a significant role in these efforts, aligning with global sustainability initiatives.

Michel Boeri expressed gratitude for the extension, emphasizing the event’s global appeal: “The Monaco Grand Prix is the most important sporting event here and continues to attract hundreds of thousands of spectators to the Principality and millions of global television viewers worldwide.” He highlighted the commitment to offering visitors an unrivaled, first-class experience during race weekends.

The 2025 Monaco Grand Prix, scheduled for May 23-25, will mark the 75th anniversary of the race’s official Formula 1 debut. From 2026 onward, the event will take place on the first full weekend in June each year. The Monaco Grand Prix continues to captivate fans worldwide, with the 2024 race watched by a cumulative audience of over 70 million fans. It was the most-watched edition of the race in U.S. history and the third most-viewed F1 race of all time in the United States.

Five current F1 drivers—Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez, and Charles Leclerc—have won at Monaco, joining legends like Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher. Charles Leclerc made history by becoming the first Monegasque driver to win the Monaco Grand Prix, adding to the race’s rich legacy.

With this new agreement, Formula 1 and the ACM reaffirm their commitment to preserving the heritage of the Monaco Grand Prix while embracing future innovations and sustainability efforts. The partnership not only secures the race’s place in the F1 calendar but also strengthens Monaco’s position as a premier destination for motorsport. The collaboration aims to enhance the experience for teams, drivers, and fans alike, ensuring that the Monaco Grand Prix remains a highlight of the Formula 1 season for years to come.
