Former AS Monaco striker Wissam Ben Yedder was sentenced by the Nice criminal court to a two-year suspended prison sentence for sexual assault…

He was also found guilty of drunk driving and refusal to comply. The court also imposed a six-month driving ban, a €5,000 fine, and ordered him to pay €5,000 in moral damages to the victim.

The events in question occurred on September 6 at Cap-d’Ail’s Marquet beach car park. After drinking heavily, Ben Yedder invited two young people into his car, including a young woman who later alleged he locked the doors and drove her to his residence. According to the 23-year-old complainant, Ben Yedder attempted to touch her and restrained her when she tried to leave, forcing her to escape and hide behind trash cans before calling the police.

Upon his arrest, Ben Yedder was found to have a blood alcohol level of 1.52g/l. In court, he claimed memory loss due to alcohol, citing personal struggles, including problems with his agents and ongoing divorce proceedings.

Prosecutor Laura Goudé had sought a 30-month sentence, highlighting the “vague” nature of Ben Yedder’s explanations and asserting that he saw the complainant as “a piece of meat.” However, Ben Yedder’s defence argued for acquittal, questioning the evidence for a conviction.

This sentence marks a serious legal and personal setback for Ben Yedder, whose conduct in this case has significantly impacted his life and reputation.
