Member of the Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM), Boris Herrmann is set to embark on the 10th edition of the Vendée Globe on Sunday…

On November 10, 2024, the adventure begins at Les Sables d’Olonne, where HSH Prince Albert II, YCM President, Pierre Casiraghi, YCM Vice-President and founder of Team Malizia, and Bernard d’Alessandri, YCM General Secretary, will be present to show their support. Herrmann, racing aboard the Monaco-flagged IMOCA Malizia-Seaexplorer, joins 40 sailors in this non-stop, solo, and unassisted 24,300-nautical-mile circumnavigation that rounds the iconic capes of Good Hope, Leeuwin, and Horn before returning to France.

Having previously finished fifth in the 2020 edition, Herrmann remains enthusiastic about the challenges of this epic journey. His vessel, built with his involvement and launched in July 2022 after 45,000 hours of construction, features impressive capabilities with 270m² of sail upwind and 550m² downwind. Reflecting on the journey, Herrmann expressed excitement for reaching Cape Horn, which he described as “the Everest of the sea,” emphasizing its significance in fulfilling his lifelong sailing aspirations.

This Vendée Globe also aligns with Monaco’s commitment to advancing marine science. Over half the fleet, including Herrmann’s, will contribute to the Vendée Globe endowment fund’s initiative, supported by Prince Albert II. Herrmann’s Malizia-Seaexplorer is equipped with an OceanPack to collect vital data on salinity, temperature, oxygen, and CO2, reinforcing Monaco’s role as a leader in sustainable yachting. YCM sailors and Monegasque supporters will follow Herrmann’s progress closely, celebrating the spirit of innovation and exploration at the heart of the Principality’s advanced yachting ethos.
