Monaco’s commitment to marine preservation was underscored as the RAMOGE and Pelagos Accords hosted their first joint event focused on protecting the Mediterranean’s marine environment…

Held at the Sciences Po Middle East and Mediterranean campus in Menton, the event brought together high-ranking officials from France, Italy, and Monaco, alongside representatives from marine protected areas, local authorities, and environmental ambassadors.

The event follows the historic signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between RAMOGE and Pelagos during Monaco Ocean Week 2024, in the presence of Prince Albert II of Monaco, a global advocate for ocean conservation. The collaboration aims to enhance efforts to reduce marine pollution and address the pressures of human impact on Mediterranean ecosystems.

Throughout the day, both the RAMOGE and Pelagos teams presented their ongoing initiatives, focusing on pollution reduction and sustainable maritime practices. The afternoon featured two roundtable discussions on the role of local municipalities and protected marine areas, as well as strategies for engaging pleasure boaters under the Pelagos Ambassador program. The insights gathered from these sessions will be reviewed by both secretariats to inform future marine policies and decision-making.

The event concluded with a special moment as Monaco-based artist Anthony Alberti, also known as Mr. One Teas, unveiled a collaborative mural created with Sciences Po students, symbolizing the shared commitment to safeguarding the Mediterranean.

Both agreements aim to build on the success of this inaugural joint event by strengthening international cooperation. With Monaco at the forefront, the RAMOGE and Pelagos Accords continue to champion marine biodiversity, aiming for a resilient future for the Mediterranean’s unique ecosystems.
