The Princess Grace Hospital Center (CHPG) in Monaco has pushed back against a recent report labelling it the world’s most expensive hospital. This claim, originating from an October 12 article on Hello Safe, has been dismissed by hospital officials as “fake news.”
The report by Hello Safe presented a ranking that placed the Monaco hospital at the top in terms of daily hospitalisation costs, allegedly amounting to 3,065 euros per day for those without health insurance. CHPG’s leadership was quick to respond, challenging both the methodology and transparency of the study, describing it as “opaque” and “incomprehensible.”
“Anyone familiar with hospital pricing would find this claim laughable,” CHPG management stated, emphasising that the hospital’s daily rates are publicly available and much lower than reported. Citing Monaco’s official publication, Journal de Monaco, the hospital clarified that the daily rate for general medical hospitalisation is 955.11 euros—substantially below the figures cited by Hello Safe and lower even than rates in France for Monégasque social insurance holders.
As the CHPG continues to uphold transparency in its pricing, the hospital leadership expressed hope that the misinformation is merely the result of a flawed algorithm rather than intentionally misleading statistics. “In an age rife with online misinformation, we thank our patients for their trust and remain committed to their care,” the hospital’s statement concluded.
