Hadelin de la Tour du Pin, former French Ambassador to Monaco, has passed away at the age of 73.
Tour du Pin’s distinguished diplomatic career spanned decades, with key appointments around the globe, including Guinea, Zimbabwe, Cyprus, Venezuela, and the Pacific Region. Born on August 26, 1951, and a graduate of Sciences Po and the École nationale d’administration, he joined the French foreign service in 1977, rising to become one of France’s youngest ambassadors at just 40 years old.
From 2014 to 2016, de la Tour du Pin represented France in Monaco, where he was instrumental in strengthening ties between the two nations. His efforts helped foster a lasting relationship, and even after his departure, he maintained a keen interest in Monaco’s affairs. Current French Ambassador to Monaco, Jean d’Haussonville, paid tribute to de la Tour du Pin, remembering him as a “kind, subtle, and seasoned diplomat” with a strong sense of humour who was highly regarded by his colleagues.
During his tenure in the Principality, de la Tour du Pin worked to highlight the shared destiny between France and Monaco, building on the historical connection between the two countries. His final mission as Ambassador to Monaco marked the conclusion of a remarkable career, during which he left a lasting impact on those he worked with and the communities he served.
A devoted father of five, Hadelin de la Tour du Pin will be remembered not only for his diplomatic achievements but also for the warmth and humour that defined his personal and professional life. His passing marks the loss of a respected figure in international diplomacy.
