Monaco celebrated the grand opening of the newly built Collège Charles III on Thursday, September 12, a modern educational landmark that reflects the Principality’s long-standing commitment to academic excellence. The ceremony, graced by the presence of HSH Prince Albert, Princess Charlene, and several dignitaries, was hailed by Minister of State Didier Guillaume as a unique and highly symbolic moment.

This state-of-the-art facility, nearly 13 years in the making, not only represents an architectural achievement but also a testament to Monaco’s forward-thinking approach to education.

The college, certified for its High Environmental Quality, spans 23,805 square meters and is designed to accommodate 1,200 to 1,500 students. It features an array of top-tier amenities, including a gymnasium, a swimming pool, a 300-seat amphitheater, and a media library. The aim is to foster a comprehensive learning environment where students are encouraged to balance academic pursuits with cultural, athletic, and creative activities. Designed with sustainability in mind, the campus integrates green pedestrian spaces, contributing to the well-being of both students and staff.

Built on a challenging 250-meter plot, the college’s 1,300-ton steel frame and intricate architectural design—led by local architects Christian Curau and François Lallemand—reflect Monaco’s ability to optimise space even within a dense urban setting. Minister Guillaume, in his speech, emphasised the importance of seizing the opportunities provided by such a facility, urging students to be “immensely curious” and make the most of the resources at their disposal, from the climbing wall to the arts and music rooms. His words underscored the role of education in nurturing not only knowledge but also curiosity, creativity, and personal development..
