The National Committee of Monegasque Traditions, in partnership with the Scientific Centre of Monaco and supported by Sogeda and the Maison Numérique, has launched a new digital font designed to accurately represent the unique accents of the Monegasque language. Until now, the distinctive tonic accents created by Louis Notari in 1927 were not present in any other European language, making it impossible to write in Monegasque digitally without errors.
To overcome this challenge, alternative characters were used in teaching materials and publications, but these could only be shared online in PDF format due to font recognition issues. With the release of this new font, it is now possible to use all Monegasque accents correctly on digital platforms, making it easier to publish and share texts in the language.
The new font is available for free download on both PC and Mac from the website of the National Committee of Monegasque Traditions here.
