AS Monaco has successfully met UEFA’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) targets for the 2023 season, as confirmed by the Club Financial Control Body (CFCB). Alongside fellow Ligue 1 clubs Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique de Marseille, the Principality side was given the green light by UEFA following a thorough assessment of its finances related to its participation in the European Cups during the 2023/24 season.
While Monaco, PSG, and OM have all achieved the financial targets set by UEFA, the Marseille club did not come out entirely unscathed. OM, along with Pre Aston Villa, was fined for the late submission of financial documentation; 20,000 euros for Marseille and 60,000 euros for Aston Villa.
In contrast to the relatively minor infractions of the French clubs, Istanbul Basaksehir is facing much more severe consequences. The Turkish club has been warned it could be excluded from any UEFA club competition it qualifies for over the next three seasons if it fails to comply with regulations during the 2024-2025 season. Basaksehir has been fined 100,000 euros and will be restricted to registering only 23 players for its ‘A list’ in the Europa Conference League next season. Additionally, the club will face limitations on registering new signings.
AS Roma was also penalised, receiving a two million euro fine for slightly exceeding its financial targets for 2023.
For Monaco, the news brings relief as the club continues to build on its ambitions without further financial constraints from UEFA. As financial scrutiny tightens across European football, Monaco’s compliance with FFP regulations highlights its responsible fiscal management, reinforcing its standing in continental competitions, an important development as the Monegasques prepare to take on a tough draw in the Group Stage of the UEFA Champions League this year.
