Fernando Alonso’s highly anticipated Aston Martin Valkyrie made its debut in the Principality, but promptly ended up on a tow truck.
The two-time F1 world champion’s custom-built hypercar, delivered on Wednesday, September 4, was expected to zip through the Principality’s iconic streets in style. However, Alonso’s dream machine had other plans, finding itself carted away on the back of a tow truck instead of making a grand, smooth entrance.
Alonso’s Valkyrie, a collaboration with Aston Martin’s Q customisation service, was meant to dazzle with its satin green livery and bold yellow accents inspired by his single-seater. Sporting carbon fibre details, from the roof to the underbody, and personalised touches including Alonso’s name embroidered on the carbon bucket seat headrests, the car was a rolling tribute to the driver’s illustrious career. Red anodised aluminium pedals and the number 14, Alonso’s lucky number, added the final flourish.
“I’ve been looking forward to this day for so long,” Alonso had remarked before the car’s untimely detour. While the Valkyrie’s Monaco debut may have taken an unexpected twist, here’s hoping the rest of its journey is as thrilling as its design suggests.
