Didier Guillaume officially assumed the role of Minister of State of the Principality of Monaco on Monday, September 2, succeeding Pierre Dartout, who served in the position for four years.
Didier Guillaume previously served as France’s Minister of Agriculture and Food under President Emmanuel Macron from 2018 to 2020 and was a prominent figure in the Socialist Party, leading the party’s group in the Senate from 2014 to 2018.
Known as a rugby enthusiast and a lover of the countryside, Guillaume has had a long-standing relationship with HSH Prince Albert, marked by mutual respect. Notably, Guillaume’s appointment marks a departure from tradition: he was not proposed by the French President, and for the first time, Monaco’s Minister of State is neither an ambassador nor a prefect.
Reflecting on his new role, Guillaume recently shared on social media, “There is life after politics.”
