Two Greek visitors to Monaco have lodged a formal complaint with their embassy in Paris following a nightmare experience on the local train service.

The couple, who wish to remain anonymous, were unable to exit the train at Monaco Monte-Carlo station due to the press of passengers who pushed their way onto the TER train as it pulled away from the station.

Booked into one of the Principality’s top hotels, the middle-aged couple, who were travelling with luggage, took a return train from Nice Ville to Monaco, hoping to be able to leave the train normally upon arrival. 

Despite the fact that they had valid tickets from Ventimiglia to Monaco, the man and wife were told by controllers that they should pay a fine of 100 euros each for not having valid tickets.

Talking to NEWS.MC, the husband said that they had been looking forward to their week-long stay in Monaco, but their experience on the train had cast a long shadow over their holiday,
