In their fifth pre-season match, AS Monaco fell to Genoa with a 1-2 defeat. The game, held at the Performance Center in front of President Dmitry Rybolovlev and General Manager Thiago Scuro, showcased the debut of new recruit Lamine Camara and the return of Caio Henrique.
Following a victory against Feyenoord, coach Adi Hütter maintained a 3-4-1-2 formation. Monaco dominated early, with chances from Takumi Minamino and Breel Embolo, but Genoa’s goalkeeper was resolute. Genoa’s Junior Messias opened the scoring with a header in the 16th minute. Monaco’s Vitinha and Folarin Balogun both struck the woodwork, adding to their frustration.
The second half saw a disallowed goal for Balogun and a response from Genoa’s Retegui, whose shot was saved. Aaron Martin doubled Genoa’s lead with a top-corner strike in the 58th minute. Despite multiple substitutions, including George Ilenikhena and Caio Henrique, Monaco struggled to find the net until Félix Lemarechal set up a late goal for the new striker, reducing the deficit in the 90th minute.
Monaco had a final chance through Myron Boadu, who was flagged offside, sealing their 1-2 loss. They will face Barcelona next Monday in the Gamper Trophy before starting the upcoming season of Ligue 1 on Saturday, August 17 against Saint-Etienne.
